At TruePatriot, we raise our puppies with care, giving them a thoughtful start and taking the time to understand who they are as individuals. Finding the right home is just as important as planning a litter, and we consider both the puppy’s needs and the life their future family hopes to share with them.
We’re proud of the dogs who have shaped TruePatriot and the families who have welcomed our puppies into their lives. As our program grows, we remain committed to learning, making informed breeding decisions, and producing Tollers we can be proud of for generations to come.
Our Puppy Selection Process
Choosing a puppy involves more than picking a favourite. As puppies grow, their personalities, energy levels, and natural tendencies begin to emerge, helping us determine which homes may suit them best.
Before a litter arrives, we get to know prospective families, learning about their lifestyles, experience, expectations, and plans for their future Toller. As the puppies develop, we observe their interactions, confidence, and responses to new experiences, using what we learn to guide our placement decisions.
We welcome your preferences and goals, but our priority is finding the right match for each puppy, rather than choosing based on colour, markings, or first impressions. Final placements are made by the breeder, considering each puppy’s individual traits and the needs of their future home.
Whether you're hoping for a show prospect, a performance partner, or a beloved family companion, our goal is to place each puppy where they have the best opportunity to thrive.
Preparing Our Puppies for Home
Our puppies are raised in our home, surrounded by the sights and sounds of everyday life. As they grow, we introduce them to different surfaces, household noises, toys, visitors, children, and other dogs. They also have opportunities to explore water, experience car rides, and participate in early retrieving activities.
We incorporate gentle early handling and age-appropriate neurological stimulation, gradually building on each puppy’s experiences as they become more independent. Just as importantly, we pay close attention to their developing personalities and how they respond to the world around them.
Before leaving TruePatriot, puppies receive age-appropriate veterinary care and a foundation to build upon as they settle into their new homes.
Every puppy’s story begins at TruePatriot, but some of the best chapters are written with the families who welcome them home. We encourage our families to approach the journey with love, patience, positive training, and plenty of opportunities to explore together. We give our puppies their start, but the bond they build with their families is what makes their story special.

Our puppy questionnaire is where the conversation begins. It gives us a chance to learn about your household, lifestyle, experience with dogs, and what you’re looking for in a Toller. Whether you’re hoping for a conformation prospect, a partner in dog sports, or a companion to share everyday life with, understanding your goals helps us determine whether our program may be a good fit.
Once we’ve reviewed your questionnaire, approved applicants will be invited to arrange a phone conversation. This gives us time to discuss the breed, answer questions, and talk more about what you’re hoping to find in your future dog. We want prospective homes to feel just as comfortable asking questions and learning about us as we do getting to know them.
If we both feel there’s a good match, the next step is securing a place on our waitlist with a deposit. From there, we’ll stay in touch as plans progress. When puppies arrive, placements are made thoughtfully, with each puppy’s temperament, personality, and individual needs considered alongside the lifestyle and goals of their prospective homes.
Completing a questionnaire doesn’t guarantee a puppy, but it’s a great place to start. We appreciate the time and care that go into choosing a breeder, and we look forward to learning more about you!
